Miss Utility
For installs, we are required to contact Miss Utility prior to digging. In Virginia you should allow 72 business hours for clearance. If we receive the request by 4:00pm on:
Mon should clear Thu
Tues should clear Fri
Wed should clear Mon
Thur should clear Tue
Fri should clear Wed
This is the time they have to clear the property. I monitor it regularly and often receive clearance quicker than this, but can't guarantee they will always do it faster. If there is a holiday, this also plays a role as their office is often closed and this will add an additional day. If I am aware they are closed, I will send an email out to our agents as a reminder to allow a little extra time for clearance.
Once we receive clearance, we add the install to the schedule depending on the time that we receive the clearance. Normally, we are prepared to install the day the clearance comes in, but if received too late in the day we must install the following day. I will email you once the signpost/sign has been installed and if we receive clearance late I will email you to let you know the install will be the next day.
Please be aware that Miss Utility does not mark for Sprinkler Systems or Invisible Fences. If we are not notified that a property has one of these, we do not know to look for this. Also, we can not be held responsible if we hit a line. Since most homeowners don't know how the lines run, there is no way we can either. If we are told it is there, we will do our best to look for evidence to try to avoid it.
